A Little Yarn

"There is your reason to live." A bony finger points up a tall cliff face.

"What is it?"

"Its a cottage surrounded by pine trees, painted with the warm rays of the early morning sunshine. In that cottage there is a woman who loves you. She needs you and desires to please you. She bears your child, a wonderful child who is beautiful and smart and aspires to be a great writer some day just like her Daddy."

"How do I get up there?"

"You have to climb that cliff."

"But its so high!"

A chuckle escapes from inside a black cowl. "Nothing is free in this world, my friend. Everyone has to work for what they want."

"Ok. I will climb it. It won't be easy but I'll do it!"

"Good. Then I don't want to see you here again. Not for awhile, anyway. Do we have a deal?"

"Yes. We have a deal."

"Good day to you, sir. Best wishes." Death strolls away as I gazed up the shear cliff face. My destiny awaits.

  1. So Death doesn't really want clients then?

  2. Well, it was more of a metaphor for being given a second chance at life, being given a gift of peace and happiness despite me not being worthy of it.
